2011 A-Z Reading Challenge

And the gauntlet was thrown down!

Like you, we cannot BELIEVE 2010 is “in the books”. It was intense and we’ve compiled a joint year-in-review.

To whet your whistle for 2011, we’re embarking on our next year-long consecutive reading challenge.

Decided on our bus trip to NYC this holiday season, it’s official! Us Bookwormz will not be reading another 52 books each, but rather will scale the alphabet from beginning to end or anywhere there in between. That’s right; all books selected for the blog in 2011 will correlate to the alphabet using either the name of the author or a word in the title.  This will give us more freedom to read larger books (aka *Chunksters*), but also challenge us to read books we may not normally pick up, but because of the challenge we’re going beyond our comfort zones for yet another year.

You may be wondering how on earth we’ll do this for tougher letters?

Example: The fun book below would qualify for either the letter A or X…

Stay tuned or subscribe so you don’t miss a beat!

2010 Reading Challenge

Gearing Up for 2010 !

The gaunlet has been thrown down! Only 8 more weeks before our very first reading challenge begins! Yes, in 2010, we’re EACH going to individually read 52 books in 52 weeks. We’re flying by the seat of our pants- no rules, just read! Ladies and gents, starting on January 1st, 2010, check here for our updates, our mood, progress, reviews, trends, and any/all book chatter. We’d love to take book suggestions from our friends too, so please leave us comments and let us know what you’re reading throughout the year, your suggestion may end up here!
Oh yeah, did I mention we’re doing this for free? Yep you heard us, FREE.
The library is an amazing place that we often take for granted. Libraries are now offering free digital download of audio books straight to your iPod/MP3 player! This year we’re using our time wisely to expand our literary horizons and intellect capitalizing on time at the pool all summer long, and waiting in airports, to read more books than two girls have ever collectively read before!
Other than a few special cases like a book purchased for a signing by a favorite author, for example, the 52 books we are each reading are either a) borrowed from the library, b) borrowed from a friend, c) traded from PaperBackSwap.com, or d) previously purchased.

Help keep us motivated and drop by to leave words of encouragement, if you want :)

Snuggle up with a book near you and we’ll see everyone in 2010!

PS- If you’ve got an idea for a reading challenge we can tackle in 2011, please drop us a line!

    Hello Bookwormz,

I love your challenge! I used to work in a local library and sometimes it felt like I ate books – I would take a pile home, chew them up, then spit them back onto the shelf again the next day!

If your reading list is running low, can I suggest Marian Keyes? Maybe start off with ‘Anybody Out There’. Sorry, it’s a whopper of a book so you may struggle to finish it in a week. It’s chick lit at it’s very best, she has an amazing ability to make you laugh and cry in the same sentence. She also has a great ear for dialogue, I think in Irish for at least a week after I’ve finished one of her novels.

Good luck – I’ll be checking to see how you get on,
    Jessica Bull

  5. Jess, thanks so much for stopping by to give us your support! 🙂 Marian Keyes has been a TBR author of mine since last summer. I may have to take your suggestion and read AOT…although *ahem* I’d much rather be reading YOUR new novel!! So excited for you. Please keep me posted on how it all progresses.

Looking forward to staying in touch,

    xoxo,
    LibraryLove
